Google has launched their mobile payment application, Tez, which works on the Unified Payment Interface. This application makes it easy to make payments to third parties, or receive money with a few taps on one’s mobile phone, without divulging your account details or mobile number.
Send money to someone nearby
You can send money to someone near you who uses Tez.
Note: Tez uses audio pairing to help you connect with nearby users. You’ll need to let Tez use your microphone.
- Make sure that the person you want to send money to has Tez installed on their phone.
- Open Tez on both phones.
- Slide the circle in the middle of the screen up towards 'Pay'. Ask the other person to slide the circle down towards 'Receive'.
- When it appears, tap their profile photo. If you don't see their photo:
- Go to the home screen.
- Tap More
Scan QR code.
- Ask the person to pull up their QR code so that you can scan it.
Note: To do this, you’ll need to let Tez use your camera.
- Enter the amount and description and select the form of payment.
- Tap Proceed to pay.
- Enter your UPI PIN.
When the money has been sent, you will get a notification.
Send money to someone anywhere in India
To pay one of your contacts, no matter where they are in India:
- Open Tez .
- From the bottom of the screen, swipe up.
- Under 'Payments', tap a contact. If you don’t see the person that you want to send money to, tap New and search for them by name, phone number, account number or UPI ID.
- Make sure you enter the correct details. Once you send the money, the transaction can’t be cancelled.
- Tap Pay.
- Enter the amount and description and select the form of payment.
- Tap Proceed to pay.

When the money has been sent, you’ll get a notification. You'll also receive an SMS from your bank with the debited amount.
